Cosmina Ene (aka “Cosmina”), a French artist painter, is also a scholar in art history, and especially in Modern and Contemporary art. In her first book “Toward abstraction” published in 2017, she explained how the European and American masters of Modern Art evolved from figurative art to abstraction. In her second book “Paul Klee’s Legacy,” Cosmina analyzed Paul Klee’s connections and influences on significant masters such as the Spanish artist Joan Miro, and the Americans Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and Cy Twombly. In this book, Cosmina Ene meticulously scrutinized Paul Klee’s works and writings, analyzed his art and explained his theories. The book includes over 1,400 references to his works and writings. In the first part of the book, “Paul Klee’s Universe,” Cosmina Ene explained how Paul Klee’s art was governed by his own vision and imagination. She revealed his technical innovations, theories and influences. She also showed how Paul Klee associated pictorial art with other arts such as music, theatre, architecture and poetry. As a painter and a musician, Klee strived to establish correspondence between arts. Klee wrote poems, delivered poem-pictures and created poetic titles for his artworks. When Klee introduced symbols, signs, letters, and handwritings into his compositions, he challenged the traditional boundaries separating writing and visual art. He explored new expressions, which required new and specific readings. The second part of this book, “Art Theories” is dedicated to Paul Klee’s teachings and writings. Klee’s theoretical writings are considered as the fundamentals of Modern Art and Abstract Art. Cosmina Ene analyzed Paul Klee’s theories and his developments on line and color.
